Pettiskirt step 1

Ok so my daughter is 6 months and I've been wanting to make her a pettiskirt I bought one off eBay cheap but thought I could make them too so she could have lots of them well they are super hard work that's why most people charge so much money for them so I started with satin for the top part her waist is 15" so I needed 30" across, and I wanted about 3" down so thinking of seams I cut about 7 " for length, put it aside because it's one of the last things you'll work with, I personally messed up and bought poly chiffon because I couldn't find nylon anywhere but the Internet and you don't want to do that if you are in such a hurry to make one just use some soft tulle which is what I'm doing on half, the bottom layer I'm doing with tulle and the top with the satin, so my skirt measurements go as follows

Waistband- 30"x7"
(which it will end up folded in half)
1st tier- 3"x30" (3 pieces for outside layer and 3 for inside)
2nd tier- 4"x30" (6 pieces for outside layer and 6 for inside)
Ruffle fluff- 2"x depends on how u gather it I just pushed creased fabric under as I sewed (because i couldn't get my Ruffler foot to work with this material , in fact I don't know if it works with any material I'll figure that out later) here's a picture if my ruffle fluff using tulle

So that's where I started I took my 2" pieces and ran them through my machine down the middle to ruffle, then I took my bottom layer pieces (first 6) and sewed the small edges together to form a long line (don't sew them into a circle) take the ruffle fluff and attach it to the long piece that's your bottom layer sewing down the middle of the fluff to the edge of your material, then take your first layer (3 pieces) and sew the short ends together to form a long line now take your long layer and make a gathering stitch then attach it to your short layers edge.... To be continued, sorry so far that's as far as I've gotten I'll try to write more tomorrow hopefully I'll get to work on it and add more pictures too

Calling all sewers!!! Ruffle foot complications!!!

Ok so I went today to get material from store for pettiskirt . First problem , there is no nylon chiffon anywhere but Internet and there isn't alot on there. So smart me bought polyester... It's annoying but not as bad as I thought and I know it feats like crazy ahhhh!!! Ok so if that isn't bad enough I bought a ruffled foot which I was super excited to find and use only to get home and find that my thread keeps getting bunched up!! And I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Please help!!!!!

So i took my presserfoot off by loosening the screw, made sure that the u was up attached to my needle thingy and then tried it out and my thread just kept getting bunched up at the bottom I don't know what I'm doing wrong

travel changing pad and diaper holder....

OK so this is my personal experience with making a diaper changing pad and holder clutch. These are super cute and very convenient to have you can just pack them into your big diaper bag and just grab these instead of searching for a diaper and wipes when its time to change the baby on the go, it also keeps you from having to lay your baby on that nasty changing table at the department store.
OK so there is my finished product since i just started this blog my next projects i will be taking pictures as i sew to give a better idea of how to do them.
  What you will need:
-1/2 yd of mink/fleece/plush fabric for inside
-1/2 yd of fabric for outside
                             - thread
                             - scissors or rotary cutter
                             - Velcro
OK so i cut out my minky fabric for inside and regular fabric for outside as follows 13" x 35" but if i do another one i would probably cut out 15" x 37"...
now that i have my 2 pieces of fabric i line them up with right sides together and pin them together all the way around, begin to sew at edge of the long side that way you can leave 4-5" unsewn so you can turn inside out when finished with sewing, sew 1/4" seam allowance once you are done with that cut the triangles off each corner that way when you turn it inside out you get nice angled corners. ok so now go ahead and turn it out just like you would do a pillow and sew the small opening you left with 1/4" seam allowance , now you are going to take your small side you just sewed and fold it over to make the pocket.

pin it in place and sew a 1/4" seam allowance all the way around the clutch. Then place either 3 diapers or a folded up towel in the pocket and fold up the clutch so you know where to put the velcro. Sew on the velcro in both spots and tada there you have it diaper changing pad clutch ready to go.
this is my first time doing this and hopefully i helped somebody out if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

A little about my adventures........

OK so i am a married mother of 2 one boy and one girl, my husband works really hard and i stay at home and work really hard, being a full time mother, maid, cook, chauffeur, personal shopper...etc... ( i could go on) is not exactly the easiest job in the world!! Why didn't they teach life classes in high school i would've took some sheesh. So i had my baby girl about 6 months ago which is what got all of the hype of sewing started. First i started to make hair bows, ok some ribbon, a glue gun, and thread, right?? I really enjoyed doing the hair bows and it was so much easier doing them myself than trying to find them everywhere for all her little outfits. Then i got interested in taking the crafts a little farther and trying to sew (my aunt Julie sews and she makes the cutest things) so i went a bought a sewing machine and just took it for a whirl. I started with a shopping cart cover (jeesh shouldve picked something harder huh) i should have went with a pillowcase or something. But i figured if i was going to do this i might as well go all the way. Once i got that finished i sewed a little bag and 2 small pillows for everything. Now i am totally hooked on this sewing stuff, i love to do it. there are so many things i can sew. I also do the hair bows as well which are cute and fun too, currently i have some that i have made in a little boutique in town called Fashion Sense Boutique, i do flowered headbands, and all sorts of hair bows. I am going to do this blog to help others and myself with sewing adventures, i am just starting the blog so i will be posting more pictures and my adventures in sewing also i would appreciate some beginner and veteran followers to help share their knowledge also.Right now i am doing extensive research on pettiskirts, they are adorable, and cheap to make, but super high to buy..
         until next time....xoxoxo
